Happy Memorial Day!
Growing up in a town outside of Buffalo, NY, Memorial Weekend was when we opened our pool, and everyone planted flowers as a sense of pride as we honored those who served in our community and family.
Did you know?:
- Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, was first observed in the United States on May 30, 1868. It was a day to honor and decorate the graves of soldiers who died during the Civil War.
- In 1971, Memorial Day became a federal holiday designated as the last Monday in May. It became the unofficial start of the summer season.
- The red poppy flower is a symbol of Memorial Day. Inspired by the famous World War I poem "In Flanders Fields" by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, the red poppy is a tribute to fallen soldiers and a symbol of remembrance.
- Memorial Day is also considered the unofficial start of the grilling season in the United States. Many people celebrate the holiday with barbecues and outdoor gatherings.
This week's [JJJ - Julie's Joyful JOLT] - Focuses on planting seeds of pride in the Mindshift of May.
I know it's important to recognize my successes
I know it's the little wins that add up to the more significant wins
I know I get more of what I focus on
So I am focusing on what has gone right this month
When I focus on what has gone right, the Universe hears me
The Universe delivers more of what I focus on
So I am focusing on my Wins
I am proud of my Wins; however small they may seem
I am proud of the action I've been taking
I am proud of the lives that I have been able to impact
I am proud of the way I have been showing up
I am proud of the seeds of greatness I am planting
I am proud of the sprouts that are turning into blossoms
I am proud of myself because I keep going
I know the bigger successes are just around the corner
I'm going to keep plugging along with JOY and watch how it all unfolds
That's how we JOLT ourselves into feeling good – then we take action!
