Merriest of Christmases to You

Peaceful morning to you!

As I am preparing this little note of JOY, I’m thinking of the magic of this time of year. The weather is changing a bit here in California, so we can make a fire inside and spend more time with family & friends. 

One of my mentors said, “You need to slow down to speed up.”  Taking time to be in the present moment takes work because we are wired into the hustle culture of doing something.

So today, I am giving you permission to slow down, be present with those you spend time with this week, and breathe!

Happy Holidays, Soulful Friend,

A recent email I subscribed to pointed out how dangerous it is to "just be grateful" for what you have. (Mary Morrissey~my mentor's mentor).

I resonated when she said she would complain about the outdated cabinets and countertops to her parents and how they would remind her to be grateful she had a kitchen and not to compare theirs to others. 

(If you are close to me, you know I often do this, too. 

My dream kitchen has been on my vision board/document for some time. 

YOU will see me have this…one day!)

Bob Proctor said, "Always be grateful, and never be satisfied.”

Do you ever say to yourself, "It must be nice" or "One day I'll have that" when you see:

Someone you know buy a new outfit without looking at the price tag?

Someone you know always vacationing at beautiful destinations?

Someone you know seems to have everything drop in their lap?

Being grateful for everything: the trees, the flowers, our friends, our car,...

Good, glorious morning, my friend,

Habits start with a tiny move. Or, as my last week’s newsletter talked about, the power of a decision. Google says “habit” is a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up.

“They” say it takes 66 days, to be exact, to have a new habit stick. So, by Feb. 8, you can expect to see your results forming and taking shape if you start today. Of course, for some, it will be sooner if you work on keeping it in front of you several times during the day.

Hello my soulful friend,

Many years ago, I learned about our Reticular Activating System (RAS). Stay with me here! This part of our brains keeps us from going crazy. It's a sifter, a sorter, and a built-in matchmaker that lives in your head and matches your thoughts.

We have about 70,000 thoughts a day, and 90% of them are negative! Whoa!! That means 60,000 thoughts per day are the opposite of all those mantras you have been saying once a day!

When you spend most of your day thinking, "I want…" 
you're telling your brain you don't have it.
So, how do we shift our brain into believing we already have what we want?
You become a proactive thinker.

Most of us think by default. Our brain loves to solve problems, so let's use this week's Dose of JOY and our JOLT to ask proactive questions.

How to be grateful in the midst…

Hello beautiful soul,

Being grateful when the world has such sad and cruel things going on could be difficult for most. The beauty of choice is that we can choose to drum up something we are grateful for no matter what is happening in our lives.

Sometimes, I feel sad
Sometimes, I don't feel like working
Sometimes, I don't feel like acting like I'm happy

Good morning, Beautiful!

How many times a day do you say or hear others say, "I'm so busy!"? A few years ago, one of my mentors shared that Mark Cuban declared that "busy" is the new stupid.

Yikes! Who wants to be called stupid??? It was then I decided to remove that word from my vocabulary — for - ever!

Let me share what I replaced it with, and please let me know how it feels when YOU replace the dirty four-letter word that starts with "B."

I'm SO busy; how will I get it all done
I'm SO busy; there is never enough time in my day
I'm SO busy; I'm feeling stretched in a million different directions

Abundantly blessed

Hi Beautiful!

Is it difficult to let something go when it has profoundly impacted you? When someone did or said something to me that was hurtful or painful, I would use any opportunity to tell everyone and anyone who would listen. For me and, I'm sure, for the poor souls who were probably sorry they asked how I was!!

That * Was * Exhausting *

Now, after years of practice, I do a pattern interrupt. 

The mastery of being aware of what I was doing and saying, then nipping it in the bud before The Law of Attraction had a chance to grab hold of it and give me more of what I did not want! (Yep, the LOA doesn't give a hoot if what you are saying is positive or negative.)

Let me show you how to do a pattern interrupt and turn it around before it spirals in the wrong direction.

YaY, Beautiful Soul!

As you are reading this, I am at the airport in my hometown of Buffalo, NY – We went back for a visit, and it was the first since 2017!! 

My cup and my belly are full!  

Before we went back east, we had a beach day at a friend's beach house in Malibu – the weather was so warm and beautiful – It was so nice to unplug and enjoy each other's company. Happy Fall Beautiful,

I'm a little sad to see summer end. Do you have some regrets like I do? I didn't go to the beach as much as I would have liked to, didn't spend much time out in our backyard (lots of annoying mosquitoes), didn't get together with friends who usually have us over to swim, blah blah blah.

As much as I love a good Pumpkin Spice Latte and warm, cozy sweaters, I'm still going through my summer wardrobe and realizing there were so many pieces I did not wear! 
(I should have added that to my complaint list above, lol).
